OUGD502 - Studio Brief 01 & 02 - Deuce Studios: Interest & Interview Set Up

Recently, mine and Harrison's collaborative poster project has been receiving support from a London design team called Deuce Studios. The first poster that they liked was day 66, and they have been liking posters daily since then.

As we both manage the Instagram account, we both picked up on their interest in our work and began to research into them as a company. I immediately looked at their website to learn a bit more about them. Their overall aesthetic is very modern and very clean. It is evident that the majority of their work focuses on branding; however, they also specialise in web design and some motion graphics.

The one piece of work that really stood out to me is their Wimbers130 poster series, where they produced a set of 13 limited edition prints reflecting Wimbledon’s glorious past. The style of posters made is the type of design that I love - bright, colourful, clean and very sharp. Because of their style of work, I really wanted to set up an interview with them, to find out more about who they are.

As a starting point, I messaged Deuce on Instagram, essentially thanking them for their interest in our work and asking if we could interview them. Whilst it has been suggested that we contact studios in a more creative manner, I felt that it was appropriate to contact them on Instagram as it is where we crossed paths and they are constantly active on it. The message I wrote and sent can be read below.

Deuce replied back the next day and were taken back by the fact that we'd like to interview them. It was really surprising to hear that they are less than a year old, as their work looks extremely professional for such a short amount of time. I was quite excited about the fact that Deuce is a small, new studio, because they can relate more to our current situation and the questions we'd like to ask. After being given their email, I continued the conversation with Jonny. We managed to sort an in-person interview in London for February 7th. This gave us some time to consider the way in which we would interview them, and the type of questions we wanted to ask.
